Source: Officials return to Alamo compounds
State child protection officials and state police served court orders Tuesday at least three locations related to Tony Alamo Christian Ministries. The actions took place as hearings continued in Texarkana over how six girls seized in September will be placed.State police spokesman Bill Sadler said the actions by the Department of Human Services were still going around noon Tuesday and he did not want to release specific locations. But agents had previously been to Alamo properties in Fouke and Fort Smith. State police were assisting in the operation.
Sadler said the operation wasn’t a raid, rather a matter of court orders being executed. He would not immediately say whether officials were seeking more children but said more information would be available once the actions were concluded.
DHS spokesman Julie Munsell didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
Hearings were continuing for six girls seized from the Fouke compound during a September raid, after which Alamo, 74, was arrested in Arizona. He remains jailed in Texarkana on federal charges he transported youths across state lines for sex.
Alamo has preached that the Bible allows young girls to marry once they reach puberty but has said he didn’t adopt the practice. However, witness testimony and assertions from prosecutors indicate otherwise.
